A dozen or so members of the Naenae Boxing Academy skipped a sleep-in last Friday to support their peers in the Hawke's Bay.

It's time to welcome the first young boxers. The Cannons Creek Boxing Academy was officially opened on Saturday, with dignitaries, community leaders and TV cameras present at the premises in Bedford St.

A Lower Hutt boxing gym set up to change young people's lives and reduce crime by taking troubled youths off the street has been so successful, a second has been opened in Porirua's Cannons Creek.

The Cannons Creek Boxing Academy opens its doors on July 22 and we just can't believe it. What started as a childhood dream to duplicate Dick Dunn's boxing gym in Naenae is about to replicate.
